Apple has purchased Causeway from A24, meaning the PTSD drama will finally find its way in front of an audience.
Apple has picked up an untitled Jennifer Lawrence drama that has lain dormant for a couple of years, announcing plans to release it both in cinemas and on its streaming platform. The film, now titled
Causeway, has sat with its former distributor A24 for a while now without a release date. Whilst the reasons for that likely won’t be made public any time soon, Apple has stepped in to purchase the movie and plan to give it a theatrical release of some kind, as it has done with several of its other high profile acquisitions such as the Denzel Washington-led
The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Whilst we don’t have a definitive release date yet, the film will be releasing sometime this year. Hopefully, Lawrence veering into smaller budget fare will yield some interesting results as we’ve seen previously with her turns in smaller budget projects like
mother! Certainly, working with a writer and director in the form of Elizabeth Sanders and Lila Neugebauer, both of whom are both making their feature debuts, promises something original.
The plot of the film is said to centre around the issue of PTSD, focusing on an ‘intimate portrait of a soldier struggling to adjust to her life after returning home to New Orleans following a tour in Afghanistan.’ We’ll bring you more details on this one, as we hear it.
