Paranormal Activity 7 may be on its way ā and itās been completed ā but that doesnāt mean Jason Blum was initially keen on the idea.
With the first film now some 14 years old,
Paranormal Activity was one of the key franchises that helped build Jason Blum’s Blumhouse empire. Yet even the man himself has admitted he got a bit tired of it, and wasn’t really planning to bring it back.
Still, a new untitled entry in the series – let’s call if
Paranormal Activity 7 – has now been completed, and it’s just looking for a space in the release schedule. Directed by Will Eubank and penned by
Happy Death Day and
Freaky’s Christopher Landon, Blum has been nattering to
Collider about why the franchise is coming back.
He admitted that “Paramount wanted to continue
Paranormal Activity, I probably would have left it alone”, and that if the decision was made to do it again, “there was no way to continue the road that we’d been down”. “It was tired”, Blum said.
As such, “I really encouraged all the creative people involved to think of something new. A lot of people who are going to go see the new
Paranormal Activity were three years old when the first
Paranormal Activity came out, so they don’t even know from those older movies”.
We wait and see whether the film will actually get a cinema release, or if Paramount will send it straight to its US-based streaming service Paramount+. We’ll bring you more news on the sequel/reboot/whatever it is as we hear it.
