Despite a multitude of Dracula projects, Jason Blum confirms Karyn Kusama’s planned film is still in the works.
We’re awash with Dracula projects at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that Karyn Kusama’s project at Blumhouse is getting shelved.
Last Voyage Of The Demeter, Renfield, The Bride, Chloe Zao’s sci-fi Western take…. the Count has never been more popular. At least one of those projects is bubbling along at Universal, which has a partnership with Blumhouse, but none of this seems to be affecting the progress of Kusama’s film, which is still underway.
When asked about it, Blum confirmed that the project is moving along, saying, “well, I just texted [Karyn Kusama] this morning. I’ll say this, it’s in very active development, so we’re getting very close.”
That’s good news, especially for Dracula fans who it seems will be spoiled for choice soon. Blum also offered an update on
Happy Death Day 3, saying “I’m not giving up. That’s like the next
Purge movie. There’s nothing official […] I think Chris Landon’s one of the most talented filmmakers we’ve ever worked with. We continue to work with. And I want to continue that franchise some way. It’s what happens when the box office really falls off on a second movie, it’s much more challenging to keep it going, but I’m going to try. I’ve got some ideas up my sleeve.”
So there you have it. We’ll bring you more on both projects as we hear fresh news.
