Another day, another Knives Out casting announcement: this time, Janelle Monae has been added to the ensemble of the upcoming sequel.
Weāre starting to get used to this. Rian Johnson and company have been spoiling us a bit over the last couple of days, drip-feeding us casting announcements for his planned
Knives Out sequel day by day. Itās almost like an advent calendar, apart from the fact that itās May and the actual day weāre all anticipating (the filmās release) will come long, long after these treats have ceased.
Todayās casting news is that Janelle Monae has joined the growing cast for the film. Monae, who could be described as āmore than a bit goodā at singing, brings an impressive acting pedigree to the role too, with roles in
Hidden Figures and
Harriet to name but two.
The actor joins whatās already a promisingly eclectic cast, including the return of Daniel Craig as sleuth Benoit Blanc, alongside Dave Bautista and Edward Norton.
The film is set to shoot in Greece this summer and will head to Netflix, who paid a reported $469m for the privilege of two
Knives Out sequels. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the āonly contingencies of the deal were that Craig must star in the sequels and that each must have at least the budget of the 2019 movie, which was in the $40 million range.ā
Weāll (hopefully) be back tomorrow with more on the casting process for the project, which is quickly becoming almost as fun as rewatching
Knives Out again. Gerard Butler next?
