Indiana Jones And Dial of Destiny director James Mangold has opened up about why he wants to tackle the origin of the Jedi Order.
This summer will mark the release of Lucasfilm’s
Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, helmed by the talented James Mangold. The filmmaker’s last two movies,
Logan and
Le Mans 66 were flat-out barnburners and if anybody can make an
Indy movie work in 21st century, we’re hoping it’s him. The signs are certainly there.
Next up following that, Mangold will be remaining in the Lucasfilm stable and turning his attention to a
Star Wars origin film that predates the current continuity by some 25,000 years, telling the story of the Jedi Order’s formation.
Mangold has been briefly chatting about his desire to jump into the
Star Wars universe and his inspiration to make
Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi. Whilst speaking to
Screen Rant, Mangold expressed his excitement, saying “the idea of where it all started. To make a
Star Wars Zero, if you will. Where was the Force born? To me, a movie always has to have a question to answer. Some singular thing that you can say it’s about. Not just connecting plot of who built this when and who’s gonna defeat [who], but what’s it about? To me, this is about this discovery.”
Whilst the idea of film trying to explain all of Star Wars’ mystic elements such as the Force may fill some fans with dread as they recall the horror of
Episode I’s midichlorians, Mangold has absolutely earned the right to tell the story he wants to. Considering the long list of
Star Wars projects that have fallen by the wayside in the last few years though, we’ll believe it when we see it on a cinema screen in front of us…
