Jake Gyllenhaal, who most recently starred in Netflix’s The Guilty, takes on heist thriller Cut And Run – New Republic Pictures acquire the rights.
New Republic Pictures have won the bidding war for Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest film, Cut And Run. The heist thriller follows a group of thieves who use speed boats to rob super-yachts. As usual with a heist film, something has to go wrong, and does when the thieves steal the wrong item from the wrong people.
Variety reports that the script is written by John Glenn, who penned the screenplay for Eagle Eye starring Shia LaBeouf. Gyllenhaal will be producing the film via his company Nine Stories Productions, working alongside John Glenn and New Republic Pictures’ founder Brian Oliver and president Bradley Fischer.
Though New Republic is a relatively new company, it already has a sizeable number of films under its belt. These include big blockbusters such as Rocketman, 1917, and the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. It’s also working with Gyllenhaal on Michael Bay’s Ambulance, which the actor is starring in alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza Gonzalez. The film is due for its UK release on 25th March.
Gyllenhaal is certainly in demand at the moment. In terms of acting roles alone, he has several upcoming films. He is attached to Guy Richie’s latest, The Interpreter, in the lead role of Sergeant John. Injured during his last tour of Afghanistan, John is carried to safety over miles of grueling terrain by a local interpreter. The Donnie Darko actor also has roles in several projects in pre-production, including The Division, a film about a deadly pandemic (which sounds like a nice bit of escapism). He will also be a producer on the film.
