Jackie Chan has confirmed that the long awaited fourth Rush Hour film is still happening – although no details yet on who’s directing.
The Rush Hour films are some of Jackie Chan’s most popular, with three films being produced in 1998, 2001 and 2007, respectively, with a television series based on the films broadcast for one season in 2016.
The movies follow Chan’s Chief Inspector Lee as he teams up with Chris Tucker’s motormouth cop Carter to foil various schemes, from trafficking of rare artefacts to fighting the Triads.
A fourth installment in this particular saga has been rumoured for a while, but it seems the project is finally gaining some traction. Making a rare keynote speech at the Red Sea Film Festival, Chan said that “We’re talking about part 4 right now”, going on to explain that he would shortly be meeting with the director to discuss the script.
He did not identify the director, but all three of the previous films were helmed by Brett Ratner. And therein lies a problem. Ratner hasn’t directed a film since 2014’s Hercules, after seven women accused him of sexual harassment and misconduct. Warner Bros subsequently severed all ties with the filmmaker, so it is unlikely he will be behind the camera for Rush Hour 4
Chan also reiterated his plans to wind down his action film career, revealing that he has made what he described as a “drama film for women”, saying that in the future he wants to make “less action stories, more love stories”.
