Big re-releases and a low price initiative means this is a great weekend to go to the cinema in the UK: more here.
As someone who habitually moans that the modern multiplex is dominated by a handful of films across multiple screens, it feels right to acknowledge and salute the fact that this weekend feels like a special one.
In line with an initiative that’s cutting the price of cinema tickets to £3 across the majority of sites over the coming days comes an absolutely delightful range of films. Notwithstanding some interesting new and recent releases, that appear to be getting a single screen each on the multiplex planner, there are three big re-releases that are playing too.
Thus, this weekend you can walk into a multiplex cinema in the UK and see – on the big screen – the likes of
E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (in IMAX, with
Jaws following next week), one of the very best James Bond films in
Casino Royale, and the superb
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan.
I love programming like this, and the number of screenings taking place – and the temporary low price – makes these films incredible accessible on the big screen. All on the same weekend that Michael Flatley’s
Blackbird arrives too. I love cinema, and this weekend is a real treat. More weekends like this please, UK cinemas!
