Following the assorted release date shuffles, Marvel and Disney look set to bring Black Widow to the UK nine days before its US opening.
Originally planned for release this very month until current matters took hold and cinemas had to close their doors, the next month on the Marvel cinematic universe release calendar is
Black Widow. This is the first standalone film for the character, headlined by Scarlett Johansson and with Cate Shortland directing.
Disney has, of course, shuffled the release dates of all of its upcoming Marvel films, with the movies still all being unleashed in the same order. As such, it was announced that
Black Widow was moving to November 6
th 2020, the slot that had previously been held by
The Eternals.
However, and this hasn’t happened for a little while, it now seems that in the UK, the movie will be arriving first, nine days ahead of its US bow. The film has landed on the UK schedules with a release date of October 28
th 2020, and it’ll be the first territory in the world in which the film opens.
Our best guess is that it’s related to the fact that the new James Bond film,
No Time To Die, opens earlier in the UK (two weeks before the US), and thus Disney wanted to give
Black Widow a little more breathing room.
It used to be a fairly regular occurrence, that the UK release of a Marvel movie would land ahead of the American date, but not for some time. And looking ahead at the schedules, every other upcoming Marvel date sees the UK and US release on the same day. It’s just for
Black Widow, assuming cinemas are properly up and running by the end of the year, Britain will be getting the movie first.
