Disney+ adds Hamilton and Frozen II this month – but the streaming service still seems to be very light when it comes to new movies.
The latest list of what to expect from the Disney+ service in the UK this month looks, on the film side at least, just a little light again.
The main event is obviously the debuting of a filmed production of
Hamilton, that comes to the service this Friday (that we’re counting as a film for the purposes of this piece). On the same day, we also get
Frozen II making its streaming debut.
But cycling through the highlights for the rest of the month, and we only see one more feature film being added. That’d be the old Katherine Heigl movie
27 Dresses, from back in 2008, that’s going to be added to the service on July 31
st.
That’s not to say there aren’t other highlights.
Into The Unknown, is a six-episode show charting the making of the film
Frozen II, and Beyonce is releasing what’s described as a ‘visual album’ by the name of
Black Is King at the end of the month.
Furthermore, and just in time, The Muppets are returning in a brand new show called
Muppets Now on July 31
st, and a road trip series by the name of
Rogue Trip commences on July 24
th.
And that’s pretty much your lot, barring anything that hasn’t been announced. Subscribers should get their six quid’s worth, certainly, but Disney is hardly going overboard on the film side at least. It’s all the more surprising given the archive of movies it has at its disposal: the entire 20th Century Fox back catalogue as well as its own. Hopefully, it’ll start digging into that more in the months ahead.
More as we hear it.
