Indiana Jones 5 delayed another year, Marvel slate shifts backwards

Disney announces a host of postponements for its 2022 and 2023 schedule, from Indiana Jones to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We won’t be seeing Indiana Jones next summer after all, with the news that the as-yet untitled fifth film in the series has been pushed back by yet another full year, this time to June 30th 2023. No word has been given as to why, although the shoulder injury that put star Harrison Ford out of action for three months could well be a factor. James Mangold’s film is currently in production in Italy, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson all featuring. This of course means that Sam Neill will win next summer’s highly-anticipated ‘intrepid yet intelligent Dr in a hat’ showdown by way of default, as long as Jurassic World: Dominion sticks to its release date (although we’re not sure how much that factored into Disney’s decision). Speaking of Disney, it’s also pushed back its Marvel slate over the course of the next two years, with a couple of ‘untitled’ films dropping off the slate altogether. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness was set to release on March 25th 2022 but will now be with us on May 6th, 2022. In turn, every following film has seen a similar push, meaning the new schedule looks like this: May 6th, 2022: Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness July 8th, 2022: Thor: Love And Thunder November 11th, 2022: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever February 17th, 2023: The Marvels May 5th, 2023: Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 July 28th, 2023: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania November 3rd, 2023: untitled Marvel film There are of course the Sony Marvel films set to appear too, including Morbius and the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, so there’s still plenty of Marvel to go around.
