In The Earth stars Joel Fry, Ellora Torchia, Hayley Squires and Reece Shearsmith – and the first details of Ben Wheatley’s new film have landed.
We
reported back at the beginning of October that director Ben Wheatley had shot a horror-themed film in the midst of lockdown. At the time, Wheatley said that the micro-budget project was a response to everything coming out on VoD during the shutdown not reflecting the world we were presently in. As such, the helmer of
Free Fire and the recently-released
Rebecca on Netflix decided to do something about it.
With Wheatley either set to make
Tomb Raider 2 or
The Meg 2 next, it now seems his lockdown project is also complete, according to
The Hollywood Reporter. Titled
In The Earth, the project stars Joel Fry, Ellora Torchia, Hayley Squires and Reece Shearsmith. The news outlet has also included a brief synopsis too, which reads as thus:
As the world searches for a cure to a disastrous virus, In the Earth sees a scientist and park scout venture deep into the forest for a routine equipment run. Through the night, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness, with the forest coming to life around them.
What’s more, the film has landed a distributor too, and is set for a 2021 cinema release, in the US at least. NEON purchased the project at the recent virtual American Film Market.
More on UK distribution details as we hear them.
