Idris Elba is set to direct his sophomore feature Infernus, and details of the new movie have just landed.
Idris Elba (pictured here in the underrated movie Beast) started the year by bringing Neil Cross’ hulking detective John Luther to the big screen in Luther: The Fallen Sun. While we don’t yet know if there will be further big screen escapades for the character, we do know what Elba is up to next.
He first stepped behind the camera in 2018 to direct Yardie. His sophomore feature will be an action thriller called Infernus. Elba will also star as “Donovan Kamara, a U.N. human rights activist sent to investigate reports of refugees being illegally detained inside a U.S. black site prison. A seemingly simple task turns deadly when the world’s most dangerous inmates break free. Kamara must work to safely extricate the refugees, all while going head-to-head with a brilliant criminal mastermind”.
Elba will direct from a screenplay by Karate Kid writer Robert Mark Kamen, based on a story by Tom Boyle.
Production on Infernus is set to start on 9th October in London, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
