Hugh Jackman has been chatting about his return as Wolverine and how it fits into the chronology of the character.
If there is one piece of superhero casting that receives near unanimous praise over the past couple of decades, it’s Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Not bad, considering he only got the role when somebody else couldnāt do it, too.
The surprise announcement a few months back that he was returning was greeted with enthusiasm, and recently Hugh Jackman has been chatting about how he can physically appear in the new film after Wolverine after the story of the character was brought to a close in Logan.
Jackman explained that ābecause of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines, now, we can go back because it’s ‘science, so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans, too.”
This appears to be confirmation that the next Deadpool film will lean into the same realm of multiverse storytelling that allowed three Spidermen to meet in No Way Home.
Reynolds will of course be back as the wisecracking Deadpool, alongside Jackman.
Shawn Levy, with whom Reynolds made Free Guy and The Adam Project, will direct Deadpool 3 from a screenplay by Reynolds’ regular writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Reese confirmed that, despite being in the MCU, Deadpool 3 would not compromise on their trademark risqué humour and remain R rated or, presumably, 15 in the UK.
Deadpool 3 is due to be released on 6th September 2024.
