House Of The Dragon season 3 will go into production early next year, but HBO has now confirmed that the Game Of Throne prequel will conclude with season 4.
House Of The Dragon only wrapped up its second season early this week, but HBO is already looking ahead to the fantasy seriesā future. Showrunner and co-creator of the Game Of Thrones prequel, Ryan Condal, announced during a press conference yesterday (5th August) that House Of The Dragon would run for two more seasons, concluding with season 4, as reported by Variety.
Condal also confirmed that the third season is currently being written and production is set to start in early 2025.
We won’t go into spoilers here ā we already have a spoiler-y breakdown of the season finale for your reading pleasure ā but Condal did address the slightly anticlimactic end to season 2. According to Condal, the team “wanted to build some anticipation” for what’s coming next.
“I know everybody wants this to come out every summer,” Condal said. “It’s just that the show is so complex that we’re really making multiple feature films every season.”

Condal didn’t mention a release window for House Of The Dragon season 3, but if it does indeed begin production in early 2025, we should be seeing it in 2026.
