Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 will be available to own from next Monday. More details below.
After a muted response from critics and audiences alike, Warner Bros. is making Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 available to buy digitally on 29th July in the UK. Chapter 1 was made available digitally a few weeks earlier in the US.
Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 premiered in cinemas in late June, but failed to bring in the people. The film, only the first of planned four films, grossed $32m worldwide against a reported budget of $100m. Warner Bros later cancelled the theatrical release of Chapter 2 and it’s currently not known when we might see the film and on what platform.
Here’s the synopsis, in italics so you know it’s official: Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 is a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. The film stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures. In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure takes audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.
Costner is still planning on releasing the sequels. It was reported in early July that Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 3 was set to head into production in August and so far, we haven’t heard otherwise. Netflix has reportedly made an offer to Costner to partially fund and give home to the remaining Horizon films, but there’s no word on whether Costner is keen on taking his passion project to a streaming service.
