HMV is on the lookout for a new London flagship store, as it plans to open more shops in the year or two ahead.
Appreciating this story bubbled up a bit earlier this week, we cunningly missed it but still wanted to acknowledge it. We’re huge fans of physical media, and in an era where every story about the high street seems to be a miserable one, here’s a very welcome jolt of good news.
It’s to do with HMV, the latest standing national retailer of discs and CDs (it owns Fopp too). A few years ago, the whole chain looked on the verge of extinction, until it was saved by Canadian entrepreneur Doug Putman. And Putman has now revealed that far from shutting more stores down, he wants to open more up.
In particular, the coming is continuing its hunt for a new London flagship site, having had to close its Oxford Street shop a few years back. And the plan is to add to the 100 or so stores over the next year or two.
No new individual store announcements have been made as of yet, but as we hear of them, we’ll let you know.
