The classic horror series Hellraiser casts a female Pinhead for its upcoming return, as production on the film completes.
The producers behind the upcoming
Hellraiser remake have spoken about the film being a āloyal, yet evolved reimaginingā. And as the film wraps production, with a scheduled release date of 2022, we have our first inkling of what that evolution may look like. The casting of the seriesā iconic antagonist, Pinhead, has been announced, and for the first time in the series, the character will be portrayed by a woman.
Jamie Clayton of
The L Word will take on the role of Pinhead, leader of the Cenobites. Along with Clayton in the lead, the horror film will also star
13 Reasons Whyās Brandon Flynn,
The Boysā Goran Visnjic,
Outer Banksā Drew Starkey and
Everythingās Gonna Be Okayās Adam Faison among others.
The reboot, which comes to us courtesy of Spyglass Entertainment, is set for a release on the Hulu streaming service in the US, with no word as yet to what the release strategy might be here in the UK.
David S Goyer has devised the story though, with
The Night Houseās David Bruckner directing. That film certainly showed some real potential for thrills, although they were more of a supernatural drift. What Bruckner can do with a more visceral style of horror, weāl have to see when the film releases next year.
