Michael Mann reveals that he’s now pursuing the idea of making a prequel to the film Heat – and quite possibly a sequel as well.
Writer and director Michael Mann had been in the midst of making a new pilot for a HBO show by the name of Tokyo Vice when the global lockdown began. And in a new chat with Deadline, he’s revealed that once he’s been able to complete that, he plans to revisit one of his most-loved films.
1995’s Heat remains something of a modern crime masterpiece, and a while back, it was revealed that a novel was being written that would serve as a prequel to the film. It would be published by Mann’s planned book imprint, and he was asked as to the progress of that.
And in answering? He’s basically revealed the plan for one, maybe two more films.
“It’s a stack about 10 inches high on my desk right now”, he says of the manuscript. “We’re on it, and I’m putting time into that and a screenplay I can’t tell you about. But I absolutely want to make a movie of the Heat prequel”.
Originally, the report at Deadline also included that he wanted to make a sequel too. That line has, it appears, since been removed from the story.
More on the projects as we hear it – but don’t expect more news for quite a while…
