New appointments at Hasbro are set to keep film and TV projects moving, as it sells the bulk of the Entertainment One business to Lionsgate.
It’s been a week or two now since the news broke that Hasbro was selling off the film and television side of its Entertainment One business to Lionsgate, for an undisclosed sum. Entertainment One notably released dozens of films theatrically in the UK, oftentimes just in the span of a year or two, and its removal from the theatrical landscape is a blow for the kind of projects
that EOne was routinely backing.
Hasbro bought EOne back in 2019, and has kept the bits that it likes – Peppa Pig for a start – but is also keeping its toe in cinema releasing. As such, it’s now appointed a man called Olivier Dumont to head up Hasbro Entertainment, and appointment Gabriel Marano as head of television and Zev Foreman as head of film.
We are acquainted with none of these gentlemen.
Still, they oversee a slate of a reported 30-plus projects.
Transformers One, for instance, is being directed by Josh Cooley, and there’s a new
Dungeons & Dragons TV series being developed, that will of course have to go some way to beat the animated classic from the 1990s.
Lionsgate’s plans for EOne are unclear at this stage, but hopefully it involves a lot of films, and a lot of theatrical releases. All we can do is keep you posted at this point. So that’s what we’ll do.
