Harrison Ford joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Captain America: New World Order

As rumours suggested, Harrison Ford will be taking over the role of General ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross from the late William Hurt. Well, it looks like the rumours are true. Reports are suggesting that Marvel Studios has recast the role of General Thaddeus Ross in its Marvel Cinematic Universe. Harrison Ford has, according to The Hollywood Reporter, been cast as the grouchy antagonist who has chewed out many a Marvel hero. The only real surprise here is that Ford won’t make his debut in Thunderbolts, but in Captain America: New World Order opposite Anthony Mackie as the titular star-spangled hero. In comic book lore, Ross is a crucial character in the formation of The Thunderbolts, bringing the disparate villains and anti-heroes together to form a team that are christened with his own nickname. It seemed that with William Hurt’s passing earlier this year, the character of General Ross wouldn’t be appearing, but The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider first reported that Marvel were looking to recast the role, with Harrison Ford as its top target. Marvel is of course well-known for weaving characters through multiple projects and we suppose that if you have a talent like Ford, why wait until July of 2024 when you can feature him in May of the very same year? As such, it looks like Ford will be appearing first in Captain America: New World Order, then shortly afterwards in Thunderbolts, probably with a post-credit tease somewhere along the way, no doubt. Of course, Ford will also be making his final turn as Indiana Jones next summer, so it’s looking like being quite the season for him. As far as Ford’s take on Ross goes, we’re just hoping for a mighty moustache, but only time will tell if that proves to be the case. Also, we can’t wait for Ford to do the press tour for his Marvel films.
