Halle Berry and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II announce production deals with Netflix, with plans for them to star in produce in future projects.
We heard a couple of days ago that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II had departed the Mad Max spinoff movie, Furiosa for an unnamed ‘passion project’, meaning the actor would be replaced by Tom Burke. The film that may have lured Mateen II away from George Miller’s huge production may just be the first in a deal the actor has signed with Netflix, who is aiming to produce and ‘showcase the talent of traditionally underrepresented or overlooked communities within the industry including diverse filmmakers, writers, and staff.’
Halle Berry has also signed a similar deal with Netflix too. Berry recently starred, produced and directed Bruised for Netflix, which (as far as we can tell, given its opaque approach to releasing viewing numbers) seemed to do very well, commercially, as well as critically. “My directorial debut, Bruised, was a labour of love and I knew that Scott and Ted would treat it with great care,” Berry has said, regarding the Netflix top brass. “The Netflix team has not only been collaborative and creative, but extremely passionate and a delight to work with. I am beyond grateful for the partnership and look forward to telling more stories together.”
Berry will next be seen in The Mothership on Netflix, whilst Mateen II will feature in The Matrix Resurrections, releasing later this month.
