After his hit remake of Disneyās Aladdin, Guy Ritchie is heading back to the studio to tackle a live action Hercules.
Guy Ritchie is a man who likes a full diary. With
Wrath of Man released last year and
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre due for release soon, both starring the mighty Jason Statham, Ritchieās slate never seems to appear less than jam packed.
Now, though, heās heading back to Disney. After helming the hugely successful live-action remake of
Aladdin, which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide in 2019, itās no surprise he has been asked back to direct a live-action remake of
Hercules.
The animated version, released by Disney in 1997, followed the the titular son of Zeus as he attempted to fulfil his destiny and become a hero. It wasnāt one of Disneyās biggest animated successes, but it remains funny, zippy, and entertaining.
Shang Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings writer Dave Callaham has written one draft of the script, with Disney searching for other writers to work on the project. Joe and Anthony Russo will produce through their company AGBO.
Other upcoming live-action Disney remakes include
Snow White, which is to star Rachel Zegler and will be directed by Marc Webb, and next yearsā
The Little Mermaid, to be directed by Rob Marshall and starring Halle Berry, Melissa McCarthy and Javier Bardem. More as we hear it.
