The upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 will be the last film to feature the original team, director James Gunn has confirmed.
Having most recently directed
The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC, James Gunn is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to finish off his
Guardians Of The Galaxy trilogy. Speaking to
Deadline, Gunn as confirmed that the upcoming third instalment will be the end of the current team of Guardians, making way for new characters.
āThis is the end for us,ā the director begins. He makes it very clear that this will be āthe last time people will see this team of Guardiansā. This statement reportedly applies to characters such as Chris Prattās Star Lord, Karen Gillanās Nebula, and the beloved Rocket Raccoon and Groot (voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, respectively).
Revealing a little bit of what he has planned for the film, Gunn continues āItās big. Itās just so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be. I just want to be true to the characters, the story, and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the storyā. Though Gunn admits to being a little bit intimidated by the huge task of giving a trilogy a good ending (which of course is always subjective), it sounds like the film will go in a bold direction.
Following the events of
Avengers: Endgame, we know that all of the fan favourite characters will be back for
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3. Star Lord will be back to his usual ways, working with Nebula, Rocket, and Groot, as well as Dave Bautistaās Drax and Mantis, played by Pom Klementieff. Zoe Saldana will also return as Gamora, though those whoāve seen
Endgame will know that situation is a bit complicated.
Gunn also says that both he and Marvel are very happy with what has been done with the film, so itāll be interesting to see what the future holds for the Guardians, and whether new heroes will step up after the old onesā story ends.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 is due to be released on 5th May 2023. More news on the superhero sequel as we hear it.
