Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell will star opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in Twister sequel Twisters.
We’ve known for a few months now that a big-budget sequel to 1996’s
Twister is on the way, with Amblin and Universal combining to bring us what promises to be an effects-heavy tale of whirly destruction.
Minari‘s Lee Isaac Chung is helming the project and we
learned last month that
Fresh's Daisy Edgar-Jones will be starring in it. Now we have more casting news, with
Deadline reporting that
Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell is set to star opposite Edgar-Jones in the big budget spectacular.
Frank Marshall is producing the film, which originally had
Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski attached before he departed to make a Brad Pitt-headlined Formula One movie for Apple. The script has been penned by
The Revenant‘s Mark L Smith and was fast-tracked into production after none other than Steven Spielberg was wowed by the screenplay.
The aim was to get this one up and running by spring, which seemed hugely ambitious when we first learned of the fast-tracked project at the back end of last year. Still, according to IMDb production began on
Twisters last month, so all seems to be going to plan so far.
Following a big 2022 in which he featured in
Top Gun: Maverick and starred opposite Jonathan Majors in the WWII aviation picture
Devotion, a lead role in a big-budget feature like
Twisters will ensure that Powellās star continues to rise. As yet, thereās no confirmation that the flying CGI cow from the first film will be reprising its iconic role but we continue to hold out hope.
Weāll bring you more on
Twisters as we hear it.
