The upcoming production of Gladiator 2 has moved a little further into the summer, but that 2024 release date still seems intact.
Paramount and Ridley Scott have pushed back the production of Gladiator 2 into the summer of this year, it’s been revealed. The month of May was rumoured to be the original date for the shoot, but that has now been pushed back by a few weeks. Whilst nothing has yet been confirmed, a late 2024 release date for the film itself is still on the cards, although the project is probably aiming for a summer 2025 release more realistically.
At the moment, Paramount has nothing huge locked in for either spot in its release slate and a couple of weeks’ delay in shooting shouldn’t make too much of a difference to its plans going forward. However, the delay does make a huge difference to star, Paul Mescal, who has used the gap in his schedule to line up a Broadway turn as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire. Not a bad way to fill up a spare fortnight, that.
Mescal is enjoying a good run following his acclaimed turn in Aftersun and subsequent casting in the lead role of Gladiator 2. He’s now earned a Best Actor nod from the Academy for the former, not to mention that Broadway turn. Plus, it gives him a couple more weeks to get into shape for what is sure to be a physically-demanding role. We’ll bring you more on Gladiator 2, including further casting news as we hear it.
