Ghost Of Tsushima movie now in ‘heavy development’

Chad Staheslki has offered a fresh update on his cinematic adaptation of the PlayStation action epic Ghost Of Tsushima. Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick films told the world over a year ago that when he finished up with John Wick 4, a cinematic take on the popular PlayStation game Ghost Of Tsushima would likely be his next project. The filmmaker has a lot of projects bubbling up so there was always the chance that something else might rise up and snatch his focus, but now his press duties for John Wick 4 are out of the way, it looks like Ghost is up next. Stahelski has been chatting about the project, telling Comicbook.com “that’s something we’re in heavy development on. I love the property. The game story of Jin Sakai, and it being what I would say is, ‘The most anti-samurai samurai movie out there,’ because of the storylines, thematics in it, and the journey that Jin Sakai goes through […] is so interesting to me. The characters in the story are definitely something I don’t want to lose in any way.” Adapting video games into quality live action films is tricky and you can still make the argument that here in 2023 (after 30 years of trying) that we’re still waiting for that definitive example. Fans of the game though will be glad to hear that Stahelski is taking the source material very, very seriously. “The trick is not do we have great material, we know we have great material. It’s how to make it palpable in any platform. You know, how do we make a great two, two and a half-hour movie out of this? Make it satisfying and leave it open to expand further from there”. Stahelski is also working on an adaptation of the Rainbow Six game series for the screen, not to mention a long-gestating Highlander reboot that is set to feature Henry Cavill.
