George Clooney’s long-gestating Boys In The Boat film is gearing towards production, with a sizeable cast announced.
George Clooney has taken his time to get to the point of moving into production on his next directorial outing,
The Boys In The Boat. However, things finally seem to be coming together with a sizeable casting announcement suggesting that production is imminent.
Deadline is reporting that Joel Edgerton, Jack Mulhern, Sam Strike, Luke Slattery, Thomas Elms, Tom Varey, Bruce Herbelin-Earle, Wil Coban and Hadley Robinson will be joining the already-announced Callum Turner in the film.
Based on Daniel James Brown’s 2013 novel
The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the biopic will recount the dramatic underdog tale of the University of Washington men’s rowing team, who came from nowhere to capture gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
One of the reasons this one has been in the pipeline for so long, is due to Clooney electing to direct last year’s
The Tender Bar first. With both projects on hand, the filmmaker elected to put
Boys In The Boat on hold, although the project is firmly now in his sights.
The cast is a strong ensemble, sharing some striking indie film roles, along with a whole plethora of prestige television between them, and we’re definitely interested to see how this portrayal of this dramatic real-life story turns out.
Despite picking up some buzz, especially surrounding Ben Affleck’s performance,
The Tender Bar was ignored in the recent Oscar nominations, but there’s definitely something to be said for this streak of quietly contemplative movies that Clooney is making at the moment, including
Tender Bar and 2020’s
The Midnight Sky. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
