Gareth Evans initially completed production of Havoc in 2021 – but now it’s heading off for reshoots, and a delay to 2025.
Despite wrapping production all the way back in 2021, we didn’t hear anything about Gareth Evans Havoc for a very, very long time. So long in fact, that we were beginning to wonder if the film had been quietly shelved.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Netflix had abandoned a film in post-production, look back at the recently-announced scrapping of the Halle Berry film The Mothership as Exhibit A, if you need evidence that the Silicon Valley company can be pretty ruthless if it feels a project isn’t cutting the mustard.
However, things took a turn for the positive last month when it emerged that Havoc was still alive and well, with its debut being set on Netflix set for later this year.
That was last month though, and fresh reports have now emerged via World Of Reel to suggest that the project is headed back to Wales for reshoots. That will see the film delayed once again (albeit unofficially) into 2025.
Evans, director of the celebrated martial arts thriller, The Raid, both writes and directs the film, which features a starry cast: Tom Hardy plays the lead, a detective named Walker, and he’s joined by Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant and Justin Cornwell in undisclosed roles. An old synopsis from 2021 reads:
After a drug deal goes awry, a detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while untangling his city’s dark web of conspiracy and corruption.
At the very least, the film is still alive and we’ll hopefully get to see it next year. As with any production, lots of people worked very hard on this project and we’re hoping that their efforts will finally get the recognition that they deserve when the film finally releases on Netflix, hopefully in the early part of next year. We’ll keep you updated when we hear more.
