Gal Gadot’s recent claims about her return as Wonder Woman in DC films seems to be inaccurate.
Recently we covered a story which raised a few eyebrows, namely Gal Gadot’s reported return as Wonder Woman to Warner Bros’ new-look DC Universe. Whilst it had initially appeared that James Gunn’s brand-new superhero universe would be a total reboot, the news that Gadot was returning threw everything into question, also raising some questions regarding the confusing strategy employed by those in charge, given the poor commercial performance of both The Flash and Shazam! Fury Of The Gods.
The whole thing felt a little strange, but the story was rooted in an interview that Gadot herself had given in which she said, “I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3.”
Indeed, Gadot would publicly double down on this statement, later telling Flaunt magazine “I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran, and what they told me, and I’m quoting: ‘you’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman – you’ve got nothing to worry about'”
However, it looks like there might have been some crossed wires somewhere as although Gadot insists she’s involved in the new DCU, this doesn’t appear to be the case. Variety is quoting unnamed sources that have stated that a third Wonder Woman film isn’t in development at Warner Bros and DCU heads, James Gunn and Peter Safran have no plans for it, it seems..
The source also adds that the only Wonder-Woman project in development at this time is the Paradise Lost TV show that will explore the world of Themyscira and that no talks with Gadot happened, at any stage.
Whilst this source remains unnamed, this rebuttal of Gadot’s claims feels more in line with what Gunn and Safran are aiming to do with the new-look DCU. All of this public back and forth isn’t particularly helpful for Gunn as he tries to retool Warner Bros’ superhero division, as it only adds to the general sense that until the DCU relaunches in 2025, the interim period remains something of a chaotic, unclear mess.
