After a long search, A24’s Friday The 13th prequel series Crystal Lake has found its showrunner in Brad Caleb Kane.
A24 has been trying to get its Friday The 13th prequel series Crystal Lake off the ground for some time now, but it’s been a bumpy ride. In May, previous showrunner Bryan Fuller left the project, stating that the studio “elected to go a different way with the material.”
Since then, it’s been radio silence, and this writer thought we’d never hear from the project. Thankfully, I’ve been proven wrong.
Deadline reports that Brad Caleb Kane has now joined Crystal Lake as showrunner. He will also be writing and executive producing as well as being credited as the series’ creator.
“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” Kane said in a statement.
“Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”
A24 hasn’t shared any plot details for the series since it was announced in 2022, but we do know Crystal Lake takes place before the events of the original 1980 film. We wonder if the new series could give us a version of the events that led to poor little Jason Voorhees’ death?
Kane is clearly a fan of prequels. He’s currently working on It: Welcome To Derry, which is due to hit screens in 2025. The It prequel series will bring Bill Skarsgård back as Pennywise and he’ll be joined by Babylon’s Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige and James Remar.
