Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the new movie in The Hunger Games saga, The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes.
Lionsgate is betting that audiences will be up for a return to the world of The Hunger Games as it kicks off the promotion for TheBallad Of Songbirds And Snakes ahead of its November release. The film will be a prequel directed by Francis Lawrence, who was in charge of Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One and Mockingjay Part Two.
Lionsgate announced the film’s release date during its CinemaCon presentation last year and given the money that the franchise has made so far, you can see why it’s keen to give fans another opportunity to revisit the world of Panem. The movie will be based on the prequel novel, Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes which was released in 2020.
That story serves as grounding to the Hunger Games trilogy, and follows the fortunes of a young President Snow, (played by Donald Sutherland in the original trilogy) ‘years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.’
With eight years passing since the release of the last film, it will be interesting to see how this one fares. It certainly seems like enough time to allow anticipation to build for a return to the series. Rachel Zegler and Tom Blyth star but we’re particularly looking forward to seeing Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage in supporting roles. You can catch the trailer below.
