Something wicked this way comes from the Oscar-winning director Joel Coen – here’s the trailer for The Tragedy Of Macbeth.
‘A drum, a drum, Macbeth doth come,’ wrote the bard and true enough, a single drumbeat pounds starkly throughout the trailer for Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth, heralding the arrival of the latest screen incarnation of the classic Shakespearean tale of bloody horror and violent betrayal.
Along with the film’s hauntingly-beautiful teaser trailer, we have release details too, at least for the US. The film will premiere in cinemas from Christmas Day, 2021, before arriving on Apple TV+ on January 14th. It’s set to debut over here at the London Film Festival next month.
With Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand starring and Coen behind the camera, the three creatives are awards magnets already, boasting as many Oscars between them as we can count on our fingers (and thumbs). Also with Roma and Inside Llewyn Davis’ cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel lensing the film and Carter Burwell composing, it will surely be a treat worthy of the largest screen and loudest sound system possible.
The trailer looks like the film will be giving Justin Kurzel’s gorgeous-looking 2015 adaptation a run for its money when it comes to haunting visuals.
With Washington and McDormand playing an older version of the conspiring couple, it’ll be interesting to see how their portrayal offers a different take. Here’s the trailer while we wait to find out…
