Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic is edging closer – and the first trailer for the film has just been released.
The first trailer has arrived for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, the Australian filmaker’s biopic of Elvis Presley, the musical legend. Set for release this summer, Elvis stars Once Upon A Time In Hollywood's Austin Butler as the title character whilst Tom Hanks will play Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s divisive manager. It is this core relationship that seems to be at the heart of the film.
Musical biopics of major musical icons have generally done exceedingly well over the last few years (with one or two exceptions) and with Elvis being helmed by one of the world’s foremost directors when it comes to fusing music and cinema, you’d expect it to hold plenty of promise. The trailer certainly includes lots of the singer’s trademark ‘shaky hips’ and boasts the same burst of kinetic energy, colour and spectacle that we’ve come to expect from a Luhrmann film.
The movie is set to release on June 24th, with the cast being rounded out by actors playing other members of Presley’s inner circle, including Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, Helen Thomson and Richard Roxburgh as Elvis’ parents and Luke Bracey, David Wenham, Kelvin Harrison Jr, Xavier Samuel, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Dacre Montgomery, Leon Ford, Natasha Bassett and Yola also co-starring.
