He may be plotting another Alien film, but Fede Álvarez is hoping to make a classic slasher movie too. More on his comments below.
Director Fede Álvarez is currently doing the awards rounds in Hollywood with Alien: Romulus, the successful new entry into the decades old sci-fi horror franchise. Another instalment has already been confirmed and Álvarez has previously teased where it might go.
Talking to Collider at the Saturn Awards, Álvarez confessed there’s something else that is tickling his fancy when it comes to making more horror films.
“On the horror side I would love to do a good old slasher. I haven’t done that really. I mean I have possession movies with Evil Dead, sci-fi horror. A kind of classic slasher,” the director said.
As with Alien: Romulus, Evil Dead, Álvarez’s 2013 reboot/sequel to Sam Raimi’s classic 1981 feature saw the filmmaker dip his toes into someone’s else’s intellectual property, but Álvarez is looking for a more original take if an opportunity to make a slasher came his way.

“I don’t think I would, you know, I wouldn’t go for an IP necessarily, but a part of me that’s sort of like very old school 80s. That I would love to do.”
The 1980s were the glory days of slasher films with features such as Halloween, Friday The 13th, My Bloody Valentine and A Nightmare On Elm Street scaring the socks off of audiences around the world.
Álvarez would certainly be more than qualified to make the next great slasher film. The Uruguayan director has proved with Evil Dead, Alien: Romulus and 2016’s Don’t Breathe that he’s very capable of crafting nasty kills while also sustaining tension. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
