The DCEUās incumbent movie Flash ā Ezra Miller ā may find their role in peril following this latest sorry turn in an ongoing saga.
Events in the controversy-ridden DC Extended Universe just lurched into further controversy following the news that the seriesā current Flash, Ezra Miller, has been charged with burglary by Vermont police. The star has been mired in legal woes for months now, with their public image suffering hugely following multiple arrests in Hawaii for violent behaviour, not to mention them being the target for protection and prevention orders, commanding Miller to stay away from certain children they are allegedly said to have targeted.
The announcement that Miller has now been charged with the crime of burglary pushes Warner Bros, owners of the DC Extended Universe, into a tighter spot regarding the future of its comic book cinematic universe. New CEO, David Laslav has already proved he is unafraid to make tough choices, already taking the highly-criticised step of cancelling the
Batgirl film (our thoughts on that
here), much to the dismay of fans and critics everywhere. For Miller, who has clearly run out of chances with both Warner Bros and the public by now, to continue in the role of the Flash, seems inconceivable.
Whilst no announcement from Warner Bros has yet been made, it seems like one is surely forthcoming.
Deadline broke the story and are speculating that Miller being charged might mean that the company could now invoke a standard morals clause from the actorās contract to remove them from the production.
This seems increasingly likely and we wonder if Laslavās recent announcement that he wants the DCEU to emulate Kevin Feigeās work at Marvel Studios means that
The Flash will be significantly reshot to add a new actor in the role of the Flash and turn the movie into a sort of soft reboot of sorts for the entire DCEU continuity. Of course, that all sounds
very expensive, but this is a company that just threw $90m worth of movie into the bin because⦠well, weāre not even really sure why. Weāll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
