Myha’la Herrod joins Ethan Hawke for upcoming thriller Leave The World Behind, directed by Mr Robot’s Sam Esmail.
Ethan Hawke will soon be appearing on small screens when he appears in
Moon Knight alongside Oscar Isaac, the upcoming Disney+ Marvel show. Hawke has also committed to another small screen project, this time in the form of a film project for Netflix, entitled
Leave The World Behind. Hawke joins Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali in the film, while the core cast is rounded out by the addition of Myha’la Herrod, who is best known for her work on the TV show,
Industry.
According to
Deadline, ‘Leave the World Behind is a story about two families, strangers to each other, who are forced together on a long weekend gone terribly wrong. Hawke will play Roberts’ husband, Herrold will play Ali’s daughter.’
The film, which is based on an award-winning 2020 book by Rumaan Alam, ‘is keenly attuned to the complexities of parenthood, race and class. It explores how our closest bonds are reshaped — and unexpected new ones are forged — in moments of crisis.’
Netflix reportedly spent quite a bit of cash to secure the book rights, and Denzel Washington was originally in talks to appear, before changing his mind.
Expect production on this one to get underway pretty sharpish, although Roberts will now have to schedule more filming time for
Paradise into 2022, following reports from
Variety that the romantic comedy she was shooting with George Clooney in Queensland, Australia, has shut down for two months due to a serious Covid outbreak in the area. Despite having just two weeks left to film, production will resume later in the spring.
