Boiling Point director Philip Barantini is reportedly directing Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix. More on the news below.
There hasnāt been much to report about Enola Holmes 3 since the sequel was officially greenlit over a year ago. Its star, Millie Bobby Brown, has admittedly been very busy filming the final season of Stranger Things as well as two other Netflix projects, Damsel and next year’s The Electric State.
Deadline’s sources are now saying that Boiling Point director Philip Barantini will direct Enola Holmes 3. Millie Bobby Brown is expected to return as well, but no contracts have been signed as of yet.
While Enola Holmes has always appealed to a younger audience, Deadline reports that Barantini’s darker approach proved popular with Netflix executives. Barantini already has an existing relationship with the streamer and filmed a new TV show Adolescence over the summer. The four-part series, starring Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters and Faye Marsay, doesn’t have a release date yet, but will stream on Netflix.
The plot of Enola Holmes 3 is still being kept under wraps, but we’re going to go out on a limb here and say it’ll feature Brown’s junior detective solving some kind of crime, potentially a murder. Henry Cavill has appeared as Enola’s older brother, a chap called Sherlock, in both films, but there’s no word on whether he’ll pop in to say hello in the third film.
Both previous films received positive reviews from critics and both hung around near the top of the Netflix Top 10 list for a few weeks.
Enola Holmes has popped up back in the headlines just days after Jude Law revealed that a script for Sherlock Holmes 3 was done. Robert Downey Jr. and Law starred in two previous Sherlock Holmes films, both directed by Guy Ritchie, for Warner Bros.
We’ll bring you more on Enola Holmes 3 as we hear it.
