All our dreams are coming true ā Darren Aronofsky is directing an Elon Musk biopic for A24. Send help!
If we were to make a list of everyone weād like to see make an Elon Musk biopic (and, after the mess heās made of Twitter, we wouldnāt), weāre not sure Darren Aronofsky would be on that list.
Still, now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, studios are getting on with the important business of announcing new projects again. Thatās great news for film website news writers but, as of this announcement, potentially terrible news for everyone else.
The project is based on Walter Isaacsonās authorised biography of the increasingly unsuccessful social media tycoon, which was published this September. Isaacson previously wrote the Steve Jobs biography on which Danny Boyleās 2015 film was based. According to Variety, the book sparked a fierce bidding war between rival producers, which A24 ultimately won.
Since purchasing Twitter for $44bn in 2022, Musk has rarely been out of the spotlight. The Tesla CEO has made a number of controversial (read: bad) decisions affecting the operations of the social media giant, including laying off large numbers of staff, cutting down on content moderation and removing headlines from posted news stories from external sites.
Aronofsky, admittedly, seems like an interesting choice to tell the tech mogulās story. If The Whale, Mother! and Black Swan are anything to go by, itās reasonable to assume the finished film might be a bit on the odd side. (A24 recently said it planned to pivot to investment in action movies and ābig IP projects,ā so maybe this Musk flick is what the company was referring to. Either that or weāre in for another off-the-wall horror of the type A24 traditionally liked to make, like Hereditary or Beau Is Afraid.)
No news on casting, writing, catering, or anything really ā but weāll let you know as soon as we have it.
