Doug Liman will be joining Tom Cruise in space it seems, as plans gather for a movie that could comfortably be described as ‘quite ambitious’.
Over the past week or two, news has surfaced about a particularly ambitious project that’s being added to Tom Cruise’s slate. As you’ve more than likely heard, he’s set to take on a film that will be partly shot in outer space. This is thanks to a collaboration with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, and the idea is that at least part of the movie will be filmed in space.
What the film will actually be about remains to be seen, but we now know who’s involved with the movie alongside Cruise. He’ll be getting back together with one of his regular collaborators, writer and director Doug Liman. The pair made Edge Of Tomorrow and American Made together, and Liman will be writing and directing the new movie.
At the moment, there’s no studio involved though, so sooner or later, somebody’s going to need to come in and pay for all of this. Plus, Cruise’s immediate commitment is to filming the next two Mission: Impossible movies back to back. Production had begun on the first movie before the Coronavirus lockdown began.
As for Liman, he remains in post-production on the big screen adaptation of Patrick Ness’ Chaos Walking, that’s finally set for release early next year.
