The lower than expected box office for Doctor Sleep has likely ended chances of a further sequel.
In spite of earning some very positive reviews, the box office returns for Mike Flanagan’s new movie, Doctor Sleep, have fallen below Warner Bros’ expectations. And we’re reporting that because there looks like being a direct knock-on for a future movie.
Doctor Sleep, based on the book by Stephen King, is of course the follow-up to The Shining, something the movie itself is happy to embrace. But plans were already afoot for a further sequel by the name of Hallorann, that would have been based on the character of the same name.
The project was said to be in its very early stages, but whilst Doctor Sleep cost a modest $50m to make, its returns are unlikely to trigger the next film. Mike Flanagan had been set to write and direct the movie.
The film remains in cinemas now, and remains very much worth checking out.
