A fun cast continues to grow for the upcoming PlayStation Productions racing movie, Gran Turismo: now with an Oscar-nominee and a Spice Girl!
The production of
Gran Turismo continues to be one of the most fascinating film stories of this year: amid a swathe of planned movies, Sonyās PlayStation Productions arm announced in May that it would be adapting the popular racing simulator into a film.
District 9‘s Neill Blomkamp was revealed as the director and a staggeringly-ambitious release date of October 2023 was set. Given that the project is based on a video game with almost no story of which to speak, and the fact that Sony has seemingly put the project together very, very quickly, this surely represents PlayStation Productions’ biggest roll of the dice yet.
With that said, the production continues to add to an increasingly fun cast and weāre really hoping this one works out.
Two more names have been added to the ensemble, with Djimon Hounsou and Geri Halliwell joining the cast. They join Archie Madekwe, who had small parts in
Midsommar and
Voyagers, who will take the lead role in a wish fulfilment tale of a teenage
Gran Turismo player who ‘won a series of Nissan competitions before becoming an actual professional race car driver.’
Orlando Bloom and David Harbour will also feature too. We were told that shooting began in September in Hungary with the film set to release in October of 2023. We’ll continue to bring you more on this one as we hear it.
