Pinewood Studios has signed a long-term deal with Disney – and it’s one that threatens James Bond.
A new deal has been announced between The Walt Disney Company and Pinewood Studios, that’s going to see the former spending an awful lot of time at the latter.
The deal is a long term one, and basically sees Disney taking over the majority of the Pinewood Studios facility for the next decade. The studio has leased 20 stages, the vast majority of the available production facilities at the site. And that means that others studios are going to have to look elsewhere for their UK studio space.
Films that have been shooting there in recent years include Rocketman for Paramount, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for Universal, and currently the latest James Bond adventure, No Time To Die. There are now fears that if Disney has a long-term hold over Pinewood, there won’t be room at the site for future James Bond productions. Pinewood has long been the spiritual home of 007, with a specific stage named The James Bond Stage.
This is a major boost for Pinewood, of course, and for British production. It basically ensures that the likes of Star Wars is staying in Britain, along with a whole host of Marvel film and TV productions most likely.
