Disney+ is putting its prices up in the US – but not if you go with adverts on the streaming service: more information here.
We already know that streaming giant Netflix is bringing in adverts as it looks to steam revenue losses in what’s proving to be a testing year for the company. The firm will use ads to offer a lower-cost subscription tier, that it’ll be rolling out later this year.
But the competition doesn’t stand still. Disney+ is now seizing the same initiative in the US, with the news that it too is bringing adverts to its streaming service. In this case, to head off price rises.
Disney+ costs $7.99 a month of $79.99 a year in the US at the moment. That price goes up to $10.99 or $109.99 a year from December – but not if you take the ad package. That’ll keep the existing price tag.
No ads, the firm has confirmed, will appear during kids and pre-school programming. Assorted packages are available for US-only options such as ESPN and Hulu too.
There’s been no word yet on a change of direction in the UK, but it does feel a little inevitable that we’ll see adverts on the service here eventually. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more…
