Avatar, Star Wars and Marvel projects get pushed back, with Avatar 5 now nearly a decade away: more here.
The ongoing writersā strike in the US is beginning to have an impact as more and more high-profile projects are pushed back. Disney, home to some of cinemaās biggest intellectual property, has already delayed a couple of films but now, the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America looks to have created a domino effect that has seen some projects pushed back as far as 2031, a date so far in the future it feels like it should belong in some dystopian sci-fi movie.
The two planned Marvel Cinematic Universe
Avengers films have each been pushed back by a year, as has the third
Avatar film. The planned fourth and fifth films however, have been pushed all the way back to 2029 and 2031 respectively. Dare we hope that this delay creates a space for James Cameron to make that Hiroshima project
he was talking up not so long ago?
As for
Star Wars, the wait for the franchiseās return to the big screen looks set to be extended by a year until 2026 meaning it will have been some seven years since the seriesā last theatrical release. Itās possible that beleaguered Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy might be breathing a sigh of relief here. Her attempts to get a good
Star Wars film (or even just a bad
Star Wars film) into cinemas have been
something of a mess over the past few years and the 2025 date that was recently announced for the next film was already looking like a tall order, even before the WGA strike. This gives Lucasfilm the perfect reason to delay the project without finding itself in the crosshairs of disgruntled fans, again.
Hereās the updated Disney schedule so you can add the new dates to your calendars. If calendars go as far forward as 2031ā¦
