Disney boss Bob Iger criticises striking writers, as he completes the laying off of 7,000 staff across Disney worldwide.
It’s been a torrid year for Disney, which early on in 2023 revealed a plan to reduce its global employee count by 7,000 people. That’s 7,000 people, families, homes, lives. We write stuff like this as a number sometimes that overlooks the impact it has on human beings. Yet here we are.
The 7,000 target has now been hit, it’s been confirmed by Variety, with a third round of cuts completed late in the spring. It’s not necessarily the last round of layoffs, but hopefully that’s it for now.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has initiated the plan following his surprise return to the top job at the end of the year. He makes, according to reports last year, around $27m a year with annual incentives hit.
Iger has separately accused writers, in their ongoing strike action, of not being “realistic” with their expectations.
The very best to all of those currently hunting for a new job as a result of all of these changes.
