Two 1980s comedies ā Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and A Fish Called Wanda ā are getting fresh Blu-ray releases in the UK this spring.
Two popular comedies of the 1980s have just popped up on the UK release lists as getting new Blu-ray editions. Both are MGM movies, now presumably under the ownership of Amazon. MGM films also used to go through Fox on home entertainment in the UK, and Fox is under the ownership of Disney. Disney, meanwhile, has a deal with Sony in the US to oversee its home entertainment releases. Bottom line: while it’s still possible to get the existing Blu-rays of A Fish Called Wanda and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in the UK, it looks like stocks are being wound down.
Hence, enter Final Cut Entertainment.
It’s a label that’s picked up the rights to reissue the films, and that’s exactly what it’s doing. Here in the UK, Final Cut’s new editions go on sale over the coming months. We’re assuming that it’s straight reissues to keep the discs in print, and any further additional features would be a very welcome, but unlikely, surprise.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, then, a remake that’s since been remade, arrives on 26th May 2025. It stars Steve Martin and Michael Caine, with Frank Oz directing. You can find the listing for the film, and order yourself a copy, on Amazon.
A Fish Called Wanda is dated for 23rd June 2025, with the Oscar-winning comedy starring, of course, John Cleese, Jamie-Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Pallin. You can order a copy of it, and find the listing for the movie, also on Amazon.
If anyone from Final Cut Entertainment wants to get in touch, and wants an extra feature or two for their discs, please do. But at the moment, it’s just nice to have another company doing its damnedest to fly the physical media flag.
