Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is set to take on the MCUās flagship series for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
We learned over the weekend that after not getting an
Avengers movie since 2019ās
Endgame, the six-year wait until the next one will be sweetened by the fact that there will be two coming in the same year. 2025 will mark the end, not only of Marvelās Phase 6 series of movies, but also complete the second major story arc of the MCU. Whilst the first three phases are collectively known as
The Infinity Saga, the second will be known as
The Multiverse Saga.
What we didnāt know until know, was who would be responsible for making those two films. Rumours have persisted that the the Russo Brothers, helmers of 2018ās
Avengers: Infinity War and the following yearās
Endgame would return, but the weekend news also quashed that possibility. However, it has been revealed that the first of the two planned films,
The Kang Dynasty, will be directed by an MCU alumni in the form of Destin Daniel Cretton. The director of last yearās
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings will be taking on the film, but not directing the follow-up it would seem.
With Joss Whedon directing the first two
Avengers films, then the Russos helming the next brace, Marvel Studios have created a formula which enables a sense of continuity through the
Avengers franchise. However, with
The Kang Dynasty and its follow-up,
Secret Wars releasing within six months of each other, perhaps that schedule is simply too tight for one director to manage. Either way, Cretton now has stewardship over the the most crucial part of the MCUās future, an especially important role given that some quarters of the internet have expressed misgivings about the direction, or lack thereof, that Marvel Studioās current output is taking.
Weāll let you know more on
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as we hear it.
