Amsterdam – from David O Russell – features an amazing cast and arrives later this year, it has been revealed.
American filmmaker, David O Russell is returning to the director’s chair with his first feature film since 2015’s
Joy. The
American Hustle and
Silver Linings Playbook director has never been one to churn projects out, but a seven-year hiatus is a long time for any director, even one of Russell’s calibre, to be out of feature filmmaking.
Russell’s next project has been titled
Amsterdam and will release in November of this year, courtesy of 20th Century Studios.
The cast is amazing, featuring John David Washington, Margot Robbie and Christian Bale as the film’s three leads, whilst the supporting ensemble isn’t half bad either: Taylor Swift, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Michael Shannon, Robert De Niro, Timothy Olyphant, Alessandro Nivola, Matthias Schoenaerts, Andrea Riseborough and Mike Myers all feature.
The film is set in the 1930s and centres around the lead trio, ‘and is a true story that follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.’
Whilst hopes are high for this one, a few eyebrows have been raised about the film’s extensive time in post-production: by the time
Amsterdam releases almost two years will have passed since filming wrapped. With the trailer premiering at CinemaCon, we’ll no doubt get to see a glimpse for ourselves soon but we’re hopeful that this one lives up to its undoubted potential come November.
