Al Pacino, John Travolta, Viggo Mortensen and Shia LeBouf lead the ensemble for Assassination, a new take on the shooting of John F Kennedy.
David Mamet, the director of
Wag The Dog and hugely acclaimed writer too of course, has assembled quite the cast for his next film. It’s set to be a historical thriller exploring one of the darkest days in America’s history.
Assassination will explore the killing of US President, John F Kennedy, looking into the criminal underworld that mobilised against the president and conspired to murder him.
If that doesn’t sound interesting enough, it’s the cast that Mamet has managed to assemble that is noteworthy. Al Pacino, Viggo Mortensen, John Travolta and Shia LeBeouf lead the ensemble.
Bird Box’s Rebecca Pidgeon and Courtney Love will also feature.
That’s quite the cast list and we’re keen to see what Mamet does with his troupe of actors. It’s also worth mentioning that he’s drafted in noted cinematographer, Robert Elswitt, who has lensed some striking-looking Paul Thomas Anderson films such as
There Will Be Blood and
Inherent Vice.
Here’s the brief synopsis for the project:
Set in 1963 and during a crucial justice hearing against organised crime, the head of the Chicago mob orders the assassination of President John F. Kennedy Jr., which creates a deadly conspiracy while altering the fate of a nation.
Arclight Films is behind the project which is slated to shoot in Canada this September, presumably ahead of a 2024 release date. We’ll bring you more updates as we hear them.
